Salalah, Oman
The Rose of The Desert
I never thought I would reach a resort city called Salalah, whose proximity to the mighty Indian Ocean brought many calamities to the people living along its shorelines and ports. The beauty of Salalah is inexplicable, and it would take you at least five days to explore the region, provided you are physically strong enough to travel from morning to midnight.
We, five persons altogether, started our journey from Oman in the 2nd week of June, which was surprising for us, two weeks away from the “khareef” (the monsoon) season. I completely miscalculated the timing, as I have been eagerly waiting for the “khareef” to enjoy the beauty of Salalah to the utmost.

It did not happen, but since it was two weeks before the busy tourist season, we were able to rent a fully furnished apartment at a very low rate. And I chose to travel to Salalah by bus, not knowing the exact duration, to feel the desert’s actual vibe. The journey took more than 11 hours, a morning-to-dusk type of tour full of excitement and new experiences.

Hygienic and Fresh Foods/ Fruits for Breakfast
Keep in mind, you need fresh foods and fruits like eggs, milk, bread and butter, cheese, and fruits that contain carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and calcium to keep you agile under a scorching sun and at a temperature ranging from 38 degrees to 46 degrees Celsius.

The 1.5-liter apple juice (100%, no sugar added) costs 200 BDT, or 2 USD, and the 1.75-liter orange juice (100%, no sugar added) costs approximately 250 BDT (2.50 USD), though in Bangladesh it costs 500 BDT and 800 BDT, respectively. Like other edible commodities, fresh fruits and vegetables are very cheap in Salalah. It is a heaven for voracious people.

Salalah City: Full of Coconut Trees and Flowers
My initial impression of Salalah was truly exhilarating. I found it hard to believe that a city could be so meticulously designed and beautifully decorated. Over the course of five days, I travelled from dawn until midnight, yet I never experienced boredom. Typically, I do not return to a location, but the photographs and videos evoke a sense of nostalgia in me, accompanied by a persistent wish to revisit Salalah.
Sumhuram Archaeological Site – The Ancient Port City of Khor Rori

Sumhuram Archaeological Site – The Ancient Port City of Khor Rori. Sumhuram is an ancient port city situated on a small hill overlooking the creek in the Khor Rori region. It is positioned on the eastern side of Salalah City, just past the village of Taqa. The ruins of this site date from the 4th century BC to the 4th century AD, leading historians to regard Sumharam as one of the oldest known settlements in Oman. Sumhuram is spelt variously, including Samharam, Samhuram, and Sumharam. Sumhuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, proudly bears this designation. In 2000, UNESCO acknowledged several sites around Salalah for their historical significance in the frankincense trade. Wubar Archaeological Site in Ash Shisr, The Old City of Sumhuram at Khor Rori, Al Baleed Archaeological Park, and the Natural Reserve of Wadi Dawkah. Archaeologists conducted excavations in 1996. Although the ruins are smaller than those at Al Baleed, the excavation team worked meticulously and successfully completed the restoration. Consequently, visitors can clearly observe significant architectural and historical remnants.

These remnants include fortifications, temples, residences, rooms for storing frankincense, and private and public buildings, both within and outside the city walls. The Temple of Sin is particularly notable as one of the most significant structures. Located within the city walls, it functioned as a place of worship for the Mesopotamian moon god and remains one of the city’s most distinguished buildings.

At Rocky Beach, Mirbat
Miles upon miles of a prolonged line of huge black rock formations lie on a wide beach in Mirbat, made of brown sand. It’s not comfortable to ramble on the beach, but the view of deep green and sometimes blue waves striking the black rocks and the transformation of those waves into white foam that splashes repeatedly can amuse anybody—the play of natural color.

Camel’s Trail in the Mountain Gorge
Safa/Hafawa Beach
The deep blue sea is turning emerald green and foamy white before merging with the white sand. Extremely beautiful, hungry, and perilous. Many people died on this beach. We found the beach and adjacent area desolate. We heard from our driver (tour guide) that swimming is completely prohibited in the sea because of the sloppy gorge lurking under the seemingly beautiful sea waves
